It will be "Coolsville" at Inspirations Studios, 1500 S. 73rd Street in West Allis throughout the month of March. The Rogues Artists Group and local poets have joined together in a creative project to interpret each other’s work. Their final expressions will be exhibited at "Art in so Many Words." There will be a 1950s coffeehouse-themed artists and poets reception on Friday, February 28 st, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm paying tribute to the renaissance of art and poetry by the Beat generation. So bring your bongos, don your sunglasses, and "drop out" or drop by the show to meet the artists and listen to live readings by contemporary poets.
The "Art in so Many Words" exhibit showcases the work of 15 artists of The Rogues Artists Group and 15 poets from southeastern Wisconsin and beyond. To create this thought-provoking show, each artist received a poem that they interpreted in the medium of their choice. Media represented includes acrylics, oils, watercolors, mixed media, collage, cut paper and an artist's book. Each poet received a piece of art from their corresponding artist and they interpreted it in their medium, the spoken word. Many of the poets will be in attendance reading their poems to the audience.
At the reception, you can sip coffee or libations with exhibiting artists Barbara Friedman, Suzanne Eli-Germaine, Carol Christ, Laura Easey-Jones, Marcia Hero, Angela Otts, Cherie Raffel, Julie San Felipe, Tom Smith, Nancy Lohmiller, Marlena Eanes, Beth Stoddard, Joyce Eesley, J. J. Joyce and Marcia Hochstetter. You can share light refreshments with "cool cats," poets Janet Leahy, Pat Carney, Jay Batista, Mary Jo Balistreri, Cindy Crebbin, Bob Phelps, Cristina Norcross, Katy Phillips, Angela Otts, Paula Kay Schulz, Pat Janke, Kitty Klein, Rose Stewart and Pat Foldvary.
Folk and Jazz music will enhance the hipster vibe. All original artwork will be for sale. A book of the poems and the accompanying artwork will also be for sale at the event with proceeds going to support Inspiration Studios. There is no charge for the event.
