Artists by Medium

Erico Ortiz

Acrylics, Watercolor

After a very successful career in education, Erico’s interest in all forms of the arts (theatre, music, dance) led to the one area he had not explored: visual art.  With meager beginnings after retirement, he began to paint.  This led him to explore working with Sheboygan Visual Artists and the Riverwest Artists Association, all of which led to the eventual creation of Inspiration Studios, a small gallery and performance venue in West Allis.

Over the past ten years or so, Erico has come to realize that art needs to be an expression of who he is and not necessarily a commercial endeavor.  His artistic style has developed and, based on the many sales and a few awards that he has received, it would appear he has grown in his ability to create something appealing to the eye.

Always inspired by music and performance art, by the sights and sounds around him, he creates what his mind can conjure up.  He often studies other artists’ techniques and content, but finds his mind often takes over and creates what it wants to create, using gesso and acrylics and a lot of color!  Watercolor is a new endeavor and he hopes to explore other media, particularly working with clay or glass.

The arts are now a way of life.

Erico’s hope is that viewers can appreciate how his mind’s eye seeks to put images on a canvas.  Eventually, people will get to know the man behind the art.
