Laurie Runnoe is an artist who portrays her love of nature and vintage objects in the fluid and unpredictable medium of watercolor. Laurie uses a limited palette of transparent watercolors, anywhere from 3 to 6 colors for each painting. As a watercolor purist, she does not use any black or white paint in her art but reserves the white of the paper to create light and depth. Using intense dark shadows to push her subject into the light helps to develop a sense of realism and is one of Laurie's favorite techniques. A typical painting will begin with a loose blur and blend of pigment and water to create an abstract flow of color, then will be fine-tuned with careful observant brush strokes to create a semi-realistic image. Capturing the essence of color and light in watercolor is the goal regardless of subject matter.
Laurie is a Wisconsin native and as a mostly self-taught watercolorist continues to learn and grow with her art.
